About Camp Katonim
In 1932, Camp Katonim was founded by Rose Dunkelman and the Balfour Beach Association. K’tanim is Hebrew for “Little Ones” and the camp originally serviced the young families of the member cottages of the Association.
90 years later and Camp Katonim is still operated by the Balfour Beach Association but now caters to children of all ages and backgrounds and services both the local community as well as those in Toronto and Thornhill/Richmond Hill through its free busing program.

About the Director
Meet Annie Gamliel — teacher, mom, and Camp Katonim’s new Director for Summer 2026!
Annie brings her love of learning, laughter, and community to everything she does. As a teacher and lifelong camp person, she believes in the power of connection, creativity, and good old-fashioned summer fun.
After spending her own childhood summers at camp and years leading youth programs in the Jewish community, Annie is thrilled to return to the place that has always felt like home. She’s passionate about creating a summer where campers and staff feel seen, inspired, and free to be themselves.
When she’s not at camp or in the classroom, Annie can be found chasing after her two young kids, Rose and Gordon, alongside her husband, Lorne — all of whom are excited to join the Camp Katonim family this summer.
Here’s to a season filled with friendship, growth, and memories that will last a lifetime!
